Lake Beversee and the surrounding Bever Forest are among the most biodiverse natural areas in Bergkamen. The birdlife is particularly impressive: more than fifty bird species have already been recorded here. The lake serves as an important migration route, resting area, and breeding ground for numerous waterbirds. In addition to various migratory birds, species such as the common teal, northern shoveler, goosander, and great crested grebe can be observed regularly.

Many specially protected species also find a valuable habitat here, including the kingfisher, little ringed plover, wood snipe, reed warbler, nightingale, and various species of woodpeckers and birds of prey. The combination of water and forest provides ideal conditions for breeding, foraging, and shelter.

Of particular importance are the bats, which find optimal hunting and resting conditions in the Beverwald. The nature reserve’s amphibians include frogs, toads, and various species of newts, among them the strictly protected crested newt, which depends on intact wetland habitats.

Thus, the nature reserve stands as an impressive refuge that uniquely reflects and protects the region’s biological diversity.
