The Corridor Park on the “Großes Holz” slag heap surprises visitors with its unique landscape design. Here, various grasses grow in dense clumps or geometric patterns within a confined space. The fresh greenery sways gently in the wind, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Benches invite visitors to take a break surrounded by nature.

People Made of Conifers

Scattered among the tall grasses are individual conifers. From a distance, these conifers look like a group of people. The design plays with the viewer’s perception. However, caution is advised when hiking through the area. Hidden ditches run through the terrain to safely drain rainwater.

View and Mining History

North of the grassy fields, the Naturarena is situated on a hill 123 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, the coal-fired power plant in the Heil district is clearly visible. When in operation, massive clouds of condensation rise from the cooling tower. The history of mining remains alive here. An old tunnel beneath the slag heap once connected the Monopol coal mine to the power plant. A conveyor belt transported the coal directly through the mountain. The southeastern portal of this tunnel still exists today. However, for the safety of visitors, access is permanently blocked off with gates.
