For ART-HAUS 2025, Rafael Gerlach created the facade installation “TOHUWABOHU” in Bergkamen. The work engages with the existing surroundings and conceives of the facade as part of a larger spatial context. The visual composition relates to the proportions of the architecture and reveals itself from different distances and viewing angles.
“TOHUWABOHU” refers to a state prior to order. The work takes up this idea without fixing it in place and engages with the urban space through a freely interpretable approach.
Artist
Rafael Gerlach was born in 1977 in La Victoria, Venezuela, and has lived in Munich since 1979. Under his former artist name, SatOne, he is internationally known for his murals and his visual art practice. His works emerge from a long, persistent process and are characterized by a high degree of technical precision as well as a keen sense of color nuances, transitions, and balance.
Address: Am Stadtmarkt 4, 59192 Bergkamen.
