Wall for International Women's Day
To mark the 40th anniversary of International Women’s Day in Bergkamen on March 9, 2025, a unique art project was created at the city library. In collaboration with Equal Opportunity Officer Martina Bierkämper and the Department of Culture, Vera Vorneweg and Jasmin Lebaciu designed the impressive calligraphy mural, thereby honoring the commitment of strong women to gender equality.
The artists decorated the wall by the staircase at the Stadtmarkt with symbols, texts, and quotes that tell the stories of women who have fought for their rights and equality around the world. Each of these women is represented by her own symbol on the wall. These symbols are filled with handwritten phrases.
Quotes, personal reflections, or references to the women’s lives highlight their tireless commitment to the fight for equality. The artwork serves as a lasting monument to the struggle for equality and will serve as a reminder of the dedication required to achieve it. QR codes provide access to additional information about the women portrayed.
