The art installation “Elefantenturm” was created in 2004 as part of the “Ab in die Mitte” city revitalization campaign. The approximately five-meter-high play and climbing structure is located in Bergkamen-Mitte on Fritz-Erler-Straße in the playground. The work was designed by Alexander Pihl and Marie Kristin Wölke.

What makes this project special is that students from the Pfalzschule developed the design for the “Elefantenturm” using clay models. The color scheme was then decided in a separate competition. The result is the colorful mosaic elephant that stands there today.
