Landscape in Flux
Thomas Stricker’s artwork “Landscape in the River” was created in 2010 as part of the exhibition “Walking on Water.” In the middle of the renaturalized riverbed of the Seseke, the artist created an artificial island with unique plants and trees, including swamp cypresses, horsetails, and other species that are now rather rare.
The island illustrates just how profoundly humans alter landscapes, even when the goal is to restore nature. It demonstrates that even renaturation is a form of human-made nature and that the boundaries between the artificial and the natural are “fluid.”
