Daniel Arab designed the “Columns at the Market Square” in 2023. The artwork is located directly next to the Bergkamen City Library. It combines modern architecture with graphic art. The artist grew up in Lebanon, where he was deeply influenced by the Arabic language and culture. Today, he lives and works as a communication designer in Berlin.

A Unique Style

Daniel Arab found his way to art through graffiti. Later, he taught himself classical calligraphy. He combined both styles to develop his own distinctive style. His technique blends the dynamism of the street with the precision of ancient script. This form of design is often referred to as “calligraffiti.” The result is a modern take on a centuries-old tradition.

Art Meets Education

The designed columns form a bridge between the library and public space. Here, writing serves not only to convey information; it becomes an artistic element. The design highlights the close connection between architecture, education, and art. The work makes the diversity of language in the cityscape visible. It invites passersby to see the library in a new light as a place of knowledge.
