The Pulsed Light
Many visitors to Marina Rünthe assume at first glance that the lights in the harbor have a loose connection, but the flickering light is entirely intentional.
The artwork “PulsLicht” by artist Mischa Kuball, created in 2007, consists of 33 unobtrusive lights mounted around the harbor basin at a height of about eight meters. Each one turns on and off at a different time, creating subtle pulses of light across the entire marina.
Kuball, known as an ascetic and minimalist, deliberately avoids using colored light. Instead, the rhythmic flickering creates geometric patterns that are particularly well-seen from the head of the harbor basin. Those who take the time to observe it will discover, in the seemingly random play of light, a quiet, impressive form of art—subtle yet effective.
